Brick Break removes screens.
Yes, and that’s what makes it such an effective choice to use against Pokémon that are protected by Reflect or Light Screen. The reason is simple: Brick Break removes Reflect and Light Screen before attacking, allowing your Pokémon to strike at their opponent freely. (In Generations 3 through 4, it removes these screens even when the attack does not affect the opponent.)
The issue becomes whether the move can damage its intended target. If it cannot, then in Generations 3–4 you can still get something out of that precious moveslot by removing Reflect and Light Screen. For instance, consider Ghost-type opponents; they’re immune to Fighting-type attacks. So unless you’re going after them with some other means (e.g., Shadow Ball), then Brick Break might be wasted on such foes.

Let’s examine what we know about Brick Break from the game data:
It has a base power of 75
It has a 100% accuracy rating
It has a 15 PP rating, though can increase to a maximum of 24 PP
Its listed category is “Physical,” making sense given its typing
In Generations 3–4, the move successfully removed Reflect and Light Screen—even when the attack did not affect the opponent.
Team Building and Fighting Type Effectiveness
If you’re building a team for a specific format, this may mean you need a variety of attacking options that have the potential to remove these screens. If so, then the question isn’t whether you should be using Brick Break—it’s whether you should use it alongside other types of attacks that are also capable of removing those screens. And again, if you aren’t attacking certain types of Pokémon, you may find yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place. You can enter your target’s type or types in the TypeChart dual-type calculator and check Fighting-type effectiveness separately from screen removal. That won’t tell you the full damage or whether Brick Break deserves a moveslot.
